Time for some cute stuff

Thanks to all of you who offered condolences and tips after my last post. I suppose it's only realistic to admit that I have moments when I am not blissfully delighted with my children, though I still claim that they are few and far between. Thankfully we have gotten through another day without anyone coming to bodily harm, and I think we are all on the slow road to recovery from our nasty colds. Yesterday all three kiddos took in two long naps--the first time for that in over a month--and I think the extra rest did them some good. Probably did me some good as well. We are still a little itchy for something new to do. I broke out the crayons yesterday and they drew on their picnic table (and a little bit on the paper) for a while before they decided crayons are meant to be eaten. I am yet to be convinced that if I try any more ambitious art projects at this point I will end up with anything but a major mess and three poisoned toddlers on my hands. I'm pretty sure playdoh or finger paints would wind up in their mouths faster than anywhere else, so I haven't mustered up the courage yet.

There is not much to report on this week, since we've been pretty much sequestered in our apartment trying to get over our colds. Abby and Amelia are getting better about letting me put barretts in their hair. How's that for exciting news? I tell ya, just about every time I meet someone new and they find out I have triplets they make some comment like "Wow, you really have your hands full," or "You are one busy woman!" Most of the time I figure they are pretty much right and I smile politely and say something equally innocuous in reply. But sometimes I think to myself, "Not really. I mean, I have an emotionally taxing job, but there's a lot of time just spent being. And then some time taking pictures of my kids. But if you call that busy, well then... I guess I am!" Anyway, this is one of those weeks when I wouldn't exactly say I'm busy, but then again, I wouldn't say I've actually been able to relax, either. I've taken to reading books for pleasure in one or two page snipets. It's dreadful for getting any sense of rhythm or fluidity out of a book, but it keeps me going. I'm addicted to reading. Gotta get it somehow, so I might as well read for 60 seconds while their lunch heats up in the microwave. Call me a multitasker!

So there you have it. Another really interesting blog post. Hopefully things will pick up soon. I'll leave you with a clip that is a prime example of terrible videography, but the giggles are cute.

Carrington,
I am actually replying to your previous blog here so that you won't miss it...
So, here are a few things that come to mind.
1.) Instead of play-doh, make up some pizza dough, or buy some at the grocery store. The kids will love it and it won't be bad if they eat a little.
2.) Have you tried baby videos? Maybe you are against the babies watching TV., but sometimes it just gives you a half and hour of much needed rest (maybe you could read more than 2 pages in that book of yours!) I totally recommend the Baby Einstein series...Mason was in love with these and they are actually filled with some great stuff and wonderful music.
3.) Here is an obvious one...the library. They all have kid story hours that coincide with their ages, or you could just go and hang out. Most of them have kid toys in the children's section.
4.) I tend to avoid McDonald's for fear of germs...I don't think they are very good at cleaning their playground up. I would try to see if there is a cafe that has a play area, or the indoor playgrounds at community centers are good for getting their energy out. (and they are usually pretty cheap)
5.)If you don't mind the idea of ride-on toys in your house, you could see if you could get a couple of big-wheel type things on craigslist or something and just wash the wheels off so they can be used inside.
6.) and you might try creating your own indoor baby obstacle course with whatever jump-on, climb-over, crawl-through things you can find...keeps my girls busy and wears them out too!
7.) if all else fails...put on some music and dance!
Hope any of this helps!
Oh yeah, and the truth be known that last Friday night when Kris was out of town for 4 days, Lily woke up at 2am with puke all over her, the crib and the carpet. I was holding her and using a wet-vac, changing and washing her sheets, putting on new jammies and then I was up with her for another hour and a half trying to get her back to sleep...I can't say I wanted to punch her, since she was sick and all, but I definitely ran out of patience and had to let her cry for awhile. It happens to all of us...and you have THREE!!!!
blessings, Kim

Carrington - your children are adorable and I enjoy reading your blog so much. I remember my mom making edible play-dough for my younger siblings....not sure what all is involved, but might be something worth looking up.

Take care and give my best to Garrett.
