Bedtime

I've been really pleased with bedtime for the past week or so. For a while there things were pretty rough and it seemed that someone was always crying when we turned out the lights and we just couldn't figure out how to make things peaceful. I don't know if the recent success is because of a change in routine or a change in stage, but whatever it is I'm grateful. Now I read to the little ones while they enjoy their last drink of milk for the day, then we have prayers and I sing them a lullabye or two and give each of them some individual snuggle time. Snuggling with Abigail while I sing to her is especially satisfying. All my "lullabies" are songs praising God and whenever Abby hears a worship song she lifts her hands above her head and sometimes she looks up to heaven too. It's so heartwarming. I don't know what she knows or understands, but I know that she doesn't do it when I sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and she does do it when I sing "I Love You Lord" or "Father I Adore You." And no matter what's going on in her little mind or heart, I know that her posturing touches my heart and gives me more reason to worship, so God is moving and meeting us no matter what.

Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. -Psalm 127:3

People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them. -Mark 10:13-16
